Everyone needs words of encouragement and inspiration, especially during hard times. When I need to reflect or some encouragement, I reference a few of my favorite motivational life quotes for positivity.
These Motivational Life Quotes Help Me Through Trying Times.
I like referencing quotes because it allows me to have words to reflect and stand by when I’m struck with emotions, discomfort or need to push myself.
All of these quotes have helped me in some way during transitional or trying times. These messages have come from conversations with loved ones, social media and books that have impacted me.
1.) “The comfort zone is where dreams go to die.”
I reference this quote often, especially since becoming a full-time freelancer. Every time I progress in my career or reach a goal, I have to get out of my comfort zone in order to make it to the next level.
This quote reminds me that if I stay in my comfort zone, I won’t excel. It’s OK feel uncomfortable; usually that means you’re doing something right.
2.) “Your feelings are not facts.”
This quote is a reality check when making decisions based on emotions instead of facts. I do believe that some decisions should be made based on emotions, but for some actions, like business decisions, emotions may need to be removed in order to make the right call.
Your emotions are valid; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. But, sometimes it’s important to put them to the side in order to make better decisions that can impact you and others.
3.) “Your value is not determined by how people treat you.”
This quote is all about knowing your worth and not letting anyone put a price on you.
I learned this the hard way in my corporate experience. I was overworked, underpaid and stressed out to the max for a job that replaced me the next week after I left.
Knowing your worth lowers your stress, increases your value and prevents others from putting a price on you. If some don’t see your value trust that others will. You just have to know your worth.
This quote also reminds me that if someone doesn’t treat me to the standards I set, it’s not to my fault. Just express to them that it their actions are unacceptable and if they can’t respect, let them go.
Like mentioned previously, if some don’t see your value, others will. So, don’t think you aren’t valuable because of the actions of others.
4.) “Your bad choices are not my responsibility to fix.”
Being fully transparent, I used to be an enabler.
I used to want to fix the issues other people had and encouraged bad behavior. This caused me to take on other’s issues and bring unnecessary stress into my life.
It wasn’t until I heard these words that I learned I had to stop trying to solve the issues that others put themselves in. Once I learned how to do that, I had less stress.
I’m an empath, so I still have moments where I want to help people, but referring back to this quote reminds me that others problems aren’t my issues.
5.) “Be stubborn with your goals, but flexible with your methods.”
This is one of the motivational life quotes I found on social media.
Around the time I was about to graduate from college, I was adamant about working for a certain company. I thought that company was where I needed to be in order to start my career right out of college.
I interviewed with them but unfortunately, I didn’t get the job. I was heartbroken and thought that my career goal wasn’t obtainable.
It wasn’t until I found this quote that I changed my way of thinking.
The opportunity to work with the brand I wanted would have been amazing, but redirecting how I’d obtain my career goals helped me out in the long run. Now, I have a career I enjoy and I was able to skip some steps to get there!
The best way to live is to stay open-minded. You’ll accomplish more than you’ve imagined that way.
6.) “The surest sign of wisdom is constant cheerfulness .”
It is very easy to think negatively when life doesn’t work in your favor. But, finding the positive in any situation can help you push through.
I always try to find at least one positive view in a negative situation which helps me be able to accept what’s happening at the moment.
If it wasn’t for me not getting that job, I wouldn’t have found the one I love now. If it wasn’t for that failed relationship, I wouldn’t have found a better person for me now. If I wasn’t held up by the slow driver in front of me, I would have gotten in the wreck I just passed.
No matter how negative something is, there’s always a positive. Once you can find what that positive is, overcoming unfortunate events becomes a little easier.
7.) “If you want to come back to a happy home, leave a happy home.”
I’m all about having my home as a safe haven/comfort place. So, I like to keep this space peaceful and a place that I look forward to returning.
In order to keep my home serene, I keep it clean and organized. It doesn’t have to be your home, but I believe everyone should have a space where they can feel safe, comfortable and be completely vulnerable.
I live by myself, but this quote isn’t just about how you maintain your home.
It can also be about maintaining healthy relationships with the people you live with. I had a horrible roommate in college who made the space tense every time I came home. I was definitely not living in a happy home.
Once I began living by myself, I reflected on the issues with that roommate. We never communicated and told each other what our issues were. We could have resolved all of our problems if we just spoke up.
If you live with a roommate, your significant other, kids, whoever, make sure you’re maintaining healthy relationships. Your home is the worst place to have issues.
8.) “Don’t let anyone tell you that talking facts, is talking shit.” – Amanda Seales
I saw a video by Amanda Seales on Instagram where she shared this quote.
Amanda Seales is a co-host on The View, an actress on Insecure, a comedian and very vocal about black culture and issues. She’s received backlash for the way she’s discussed social issues in the past, causing people to either hate or love her.
I like referencing her quote when I second guess if I should speak up to avoid tension. In the past, I knew speaking up for important matters was needed, but I’d feel as though avoiding conflict was better, especially speaking with defensive people.
In order to stop that mindset, I’d think about this quote.
This quote can work for your personal or professional life. People can be defensive, but that shouldn’t stop you from speaking the truth no matter how large or small the issue.
9.) “If you don’t have the money it’s an emergency, if you do, it’s an inconvenience.”
This is one of the motivational life quotes that are so helpful when I’m hit financially. I’ve previously gotten upset whenever I’ve had to use my savings, but this quote reminded me that savings are for unforeseen issues.
Reflecting on misadventures, I’m glad I was able to handle situations like flats, medical issues and most recently, the impact of COVID-19, by using my savings.
I know I would be in worse situations if I didn’t have the money and I’m blessed to be able to say I’m just being inconvenienced and not in an emergency situation.
These Motivational Life Quotes Can be Used in Many Situations.
All of the quotes listed can be used for any situation.
No matter what I’m going through, I can always go back to one of these quotes to help with positive outlooks and encouragement.
